A word from the President - 26 January 2012
One of the highlights on the SAICSIT calendar is the SAICSIT conference, which draws participants from across South Africa, Africa and beyond. The 2011 conference was held in Cape Town from 3 to 5 October. The conference continued to grow from strength to strength, with well over 100 papers received, and over 100 delegates attending. 28 papers full papers were accepted, with 20 short papers and 1 industry paper. The quality of the conference is attested to by its inclusion in the ACM International Conference Proceedings. Publication by ACM has assured the conference high international visibility as is evidenced by high citation counts to some of the articles published in SAICSIT. We look forward to the SAICSIT 2012 conference to be hosted by UNISA in Tshwane from 1-3 October.
As we go forward, we as SAICSIT hope to consolidate what has been achieved in the past while looking forward to the future. Some key initiatives that we will continue with are, of course, the annual SAICSIT conference and associated events, such as the postgraduate symposium, the annual pioneer awards, conference-with-a-conscience, and our goal of increasing participation from other African countries.
SAICSIT brings together researchers from diverse computing disciplines including Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, and Software Engineering. As such one of the key thrusts this year is to strengthen our links with international and national bodies within each of these computing disciplines.
Other initiatives being pursued are the update of our membership, and the continued strengthening of the South African Computer Journal, our flagship journal.
Once again we look forward to the SAICSIT 2012 conference, where there will once more be an exciting line up of events and speakers.
